About The Gouldings
The Gouldings is a residential care home in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, including residents living with dementia and residents with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for shorter periods. Residents here have different histories, different routines and very different ideas of a good day, so we plan support one person at a time rather than running the house on a single timetable. We ask when someone likes to wake, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the afternoon. Help with personal care, meals and medication is given quietly and with respect for privacy. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure rather than argue when someone is unsettled. For residents with physical disabilities we pay close attention to mobility, to moving safely about the building and to the arrangements that let someone do more without help. Families are welcome whenever they wish to visit and we would far rather hear a concern while it is small. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we hold ourselves to it in the ordinary details of every day.
