About Us
The Moorings Care Home is in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period.
Being on the Island shapes things in useful ways. Many of the people living here have known Cowes all their lives, family and friends are usually close by, and the community keeps coming through the door. Visitors are welcome at whatever hour works for them rather than whatever suits our rota.
Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody living with a long standing mental health condition, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular.
Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the cause rather than trying to smooth it over. Relatives often know precisely what helps and we want to be told at the beginning.
At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
