About Us
Sweetcroft Residential Care Home is in Uxbridge in the London borough of Hillingdon. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people needing care for a short spell.
We want this to feel like a house that people live in rather than somewhere they have been sent. Visitors come at the times that suit them rather than the times that suit our rota. There is usually something going on that nobody is obliged to join. Staff sit down and talk properly instead of passing through on the way to a task. People here decide when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and whether they want company or their own space.
Dementia care depends on patience and a familiar rhythm more than on anything we could add. We avoid springing things on people, we keep the day recognisable, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the reason rather than trying to smooth it over. Relatives frequently know precisely what helps, and we would far rather be told at the beginning than work it out across six months.
The practical side gets proper attention as well: food people actually want, medication managed carefully, quick response when somebody is unwell, and honest conversations with families when circumstances change.
The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking residents and relatives where we are falling short.
