About Us
Sherwood Court is a residential care home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a home rather than a facility, and the people living here are supported to run their own lives as far as they are able.
Ordinary life is the point of the place. That means cooking, shopping, keeping your own room exactly as you want it, getting out to college, work or a club, and having a genuine say in how the week is arranged. For autistic residents we pay close attention to the things that make a home manageable: steady routines, proper warning before anything changes, and a quiet space to retreat to when the day has been a lot.
Support is offered at whatever level suits the person. We help where help is genuinely wanted and stand back where it is not, and we are as interested in what somebody can do independently as in what they need a hand with.
Respite stays are available, which can give a family a break or serve as a trial for somebody considering a move.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.
If you would like to visit or talk things through, please get in touch and we will take it at whatever pace suits you.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
No. Sherwood Court is not listed for dementia care on the CQC register. If dementia is likely, choose a home that is, so a second move is not needed later. Source: CQC register

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Ask the home. The register does not say which age groups the home supports. Ask the home.
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
