About Oakley Lodge
Here at Oakley Lodge, we are proud to offer a warm and welcoming home for the people who live with us in the heart of Basingstoke, Hampshire. We support a diverse range of individuals, including older adults, younger adults, people living with a learning disability or autism, and those who need short term respite care. Whatever brings someone to us, our aim is always the same: to make sure each person feels genuinely at home, respected, and valued as an individual. We take the time to get to know the people we support, understanding their routines, preferences, and the things that matter most to them day to day. Residential care looks different for everyone, and we do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Whether someone is joining us for a longer term stay or a planned period of respite, we work closely with them and their families to make the transition as smooth and reassuring as possible. Families and loved ones are very much part of life here at Oakley Lodge. We encourage open communication and welcome visits, because we know how important those connections are to the wellbeing of the people we support. We are always happy to have a conversation, answer questions, or simply offer a cup of tea and a chat. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the hard work and genuine commitment of our whole team. We do not take that for granted and we continue to look at how we can improve and grow. If you are considering Oakley Lodge for yourself or someone you care about, please do get in touch. We would love to welcome you for a visit and show you what life here is really like.

No. Oakley Lodge is not listed for dementia care on the CQC register. If dementia is likely, choose a home that is, so a second move is not needed later.
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. Oakley Lodge is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home.

Yes. Yes. Oakley Lodge offers respite and short stays, which is a good way to see whether the home is the right fit.
Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?

More about the care at Oakley Lodge
Respite Care at Oakley Lodge
Dates, an accurate medication list and a clear picture of continence and mobility needs are what a home wants before confirming a short stay. Expect a minimum of one or two weeks, book well ahead for holiday periods, and pack labelled clothing with a few familiar objects. A respite stay at Oakley Lodge also works as a trial, which tells a family more than any number of visits.
Residential Care at Oakley Lodge
Residential care buys a household rather than a hospital: meals cooked, laundry done, help with personal care, and something happening in the day. No registered nurse is based on site, so district nurses and GPs visit as they would any private address, which is the practical difference from a nursing home. Oakley Lodge in Basingstoke is registered for residential care, and its last published rating from the Care Quality Commission was good, following an inspection in April 2018. That is a long gap, so ask what has changed in the years since and whether a new inspection is expected. Ask what the fee includes, which extras are billed separately, and what would happen if a resident later needed nursing.
Older Person Care at Oakley Lodge
Judge a care home by its afternoon, since mornings are busy by necessity and evenings quiet by design. Between those, the work is washing and dressing at a civilised pace, medication given accurately, meals people want to eat, and company. Oakley Lodge is registered for older person care, with weekly fees in the South East commonly between £1100 and £1450 while Hampshire pays about £800 to £950 for placements it funds. A top up frequently bridges that gap, so ask who would be expected to pay it. Ask how much say residents have over bedtimes and baths, and how many staff are awake at night.
Younger Adults at Oakley Lodge
Putting a thirty year old and a ninety year old under one roof takes deliberate effort if both are to have a decent week. Oakley Lodge is registered for younger adults, so ask how many live there now, what they do with their time, and who they spend it with. Internet access and help getting out locally are fair questions to put.
Learning Disability and Autism at Oakley Lodge
A care home registered for both older people and learning disability is an unusual mix, and worth asking about directly. Good support here is person centred, builds on what somebody can already do, and respects routines and sensory needs. Oakley Lodge holds that registration, so ask who commissions the placement, how the plan is agreed with the person, and how often it is reviewed.
