About Maeres House
Maeres House is a residential care home in Widnes, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and that shows in ordinary decisions rather than in anything we could claim here. People choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list, when they get up and how the weekend goes. Where somebody can do something themselves, we support them to keep doing it even when stepping in would be faster. Attitude matters a great deal in a mixed household like this. Some of the people living with us have had experiences of being judged rather than helped, and staff who arrive with opinions about how somebody came to need support are no use to them. Where a person communicates differently we sort that out properly at the start, because the rest of our work depends on it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We would rather talk with you about what worries you than about what we are proud of.
