About Smithy Forge

Smithy Forge is a residential care home in Runcorn supporting older people, adults with a learning disability or autism and people living with mental health needs. We also offer respite stays. A home with that range of residents works only when the planning is genuinely individual, which is how we do it. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings and a real say in how the house is run. We want to know how someone's day should go, what they can manage themselves, what they want help with and what they would rather we left alone. For residents with a learning disability or autism, communication comes first. We learn how each person tells us what they need, in words or otherwise, and we keep routines steady, giving proper notice before anything changes. We support people to cook, shop, manage money and get out locally, because independence is built through doing. For those living with mental health needs we pay attention to early signs that someone is becoming less well and act on them, working alongside community teams rather than separately from them. For older residents the emphasis is on keeping the ordinary shape of a life going. Respite guests are part of the household while they are here. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please get in touch and we will arrange it.
