About The Pembury
The Pembury is a residential care home in Gloucester, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite care for planned short stays. This is a home rather than a placement. People have their own room and their own things, decide how they want to spend the day, and are supported to do more for themselves over time rather than having it all done for them. Cooking a meal you chose, doing the shopping, keeping your room how you like it, managing money and appointments, getting to college or work, seeing friends and family, going out into Gloucester when you feel like it: that is what a week is actually made of, and it is where most of our attention goes. How we communicate matters as much as what we do. We adapt to the person, whether that means signing, symbols, plain speech, pictures, extra time or simply a quieter room, because being properly understood is where everything else begins. We ask people what they want rather than assuming, and we take the answer seriously even when it is inconvenient for us. We pay close attention to the environment too. Noise, pace, routine and predictability often matter more to somebody than anything we say. Support is agreed with each person and with anyone they want involved, written in a form they can understand, and reviewed honestly rather than left to drift. Respite stays are arranged with the same thought as a permanent move. If you are looking into a place or a short stay, please contact us.
