About Joyleen
Joyleen in Gloucester is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with mental health needs, alongside older people. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Because people tend to live here for years, we run the house as their household rather than as a setting they have been placed in. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. We would rather spend twenty minutes helping somebody do a thing themselves than two minutes doing it for them. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed, and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right without being told. For anybody who finds change difficult, that consistency is the ground everything else stands on. Communication is where the real work lies. Not everybody here uses speech, and we learn each person's way and write it down. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we try to be steady and clear. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
