About Us
Woodlands is a residential care home in Colchester for older ladies, and we also welcome respite guests.
Being a home for women shapes the place in ways that are hard to put on paper but easy to feel when you walk in. It is quieter than some homes, conversation flows easily, and a lot of our residents say they feel more comfortable and more themselves here than they expected to.
We run the house at the pace of the people living in it. Mornings are flexible, meals are proper meals, and residents choose how they spend their days, in company or on their own as they prefer. Staff learn people's histories, their families, their working lives and the things they still care about, because good care depends on knowing a person rather than a set of needs.
Moving into a care home usually follows a loss of some kind, often a house lived in for decades. We take time over settling in, we arrange rooms with people's own furniture and pictures where we can, and we do not expect anyone to feel at home by the second week.
Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good.
