About Us
Welshwood Manor is a residential care home in Colchester, Essex. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for those who need care for a shorter time.
We aim to run the house in a way that leaves people in charge of their own days. Residents decide when to get up, where to sit, what to do and how much they want to be involved with everybody else. Our staff are there to make those choices possible rather than to organise people into a timetable. For residents with physical disabilities in particular, we think carefully about what independence looks like in practice: the right equipment, the right amount of time, and support that stops exactly where somebody's own ability begins.
Day to day we help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, continence and moving about safely, and we work with GPs, district nurses, physiotherapists and other health colleagues so that people get the specialist input they need without leaving home. We keep an eye on mood and company as well as on health, because isolation does its own damage.
When somebody moves in we spend time learning about their life before they came here, and we use that to shape how we support them. Families are welcome to visit whenever they wish and we would rather they told us early if something is not right.
If you are considering a care home in Colchester, please arrange to come and look round.
