About Us

Stronvar Rest Home is a residential care home in Colchester. We look after older people who have found that managing alone has become more of a struggle than a pleasure, including many people living with dementia.

We try to keep life here ordinary. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, and spend the day as they choose, in company or quietly with a newspaper. Good dementia care is mostly unremarkable in the doing of it, familiar faces, meals at expected times, routines that hold from one day to the next, and staff with enough time to let a conversation take as long as it takes. We would rather shape our day around a person than ask a person to fall in with ours.

We also offer respite stays, whether to give a family carer a proper break or to support somebody through a period of recovery after illness or hospital.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. It matters to us, though the better test is whether somebody seems settled and content after a few weeks here, and that is the question we keep putting to ourselves.

If you are looking for a home for yourself or someone close to you, please come and see us. Call in on a normal day, meet the people who live here and ask us anything you want to know.
