About Us
Milton Lodge Retirement Home is a residential care home in Colchester, Essex. We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a break.
We keep our work deliberately focused. Residential care for older people is what we do, and we would rather do it attentively than spread ourselves across every kind of need. Residents tell us when they like to wake, what they want to eat, how much help they want with washing and dressing and how they prefer to spend the day, and the day is built from those answers rather than from a rota that suits us.
Dementia care runs through a great deal of what we do. We take time to learn a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that help them feel settled, because that knowledge is what allows us to offer reassurance when someone is anxious rather than correct them. We keep the day predictable and explain changes in advance where we can.
Independence is protected wherever it exists, and company matters as much as practical help. Families are welcome whenever they want to visit and we would far rather hear a concern early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
