About Us

Here at Freda Gunton Lodge, we provide residential care for older people in the heart of Colchester, Essex. We are a care home that takes pride in offering a genuinely homely environment where residents feel comfortable, valued and very much at ease.

Our main areas of care include older person care, residential care and respite care. Whether someone is joining us for a short stay while they recover or get extra support, or they are making Freda Gunton Lodge their long term home, we work hard to make sure the experience feels personal and unhurried. We take the time to understand each resident as an individual, getting to know their routines, their preferences and the things that matter most to them day to day.

Respite care is something we approach with particular thought. We understand that coming into a care home, even temporarily, can feel like a big step. Our aim is to make that transition as smooth and reassuring as possible, so that both residents and their families feel confident and well supported throughout.

We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection resulted in an overall rating of Good. While we are proud of that recognition, we see it as a reflection of the consistent, everyday effort our team puts in rather than something to simply rest on. We are always looking at how we can do things better and how we can continue to raise the standard of care we offer.
