About Us

11 Barnfield Road is a small residential care home in Colchester supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of the people living here are younger adults.

Being small is the point. It means the people living here know one another properly and it means we know them properly too, which is what allows support to be genuinely individual rather than individual on paper. People decorate their own rooms, help decide what is cooked and when, and come and go to work, college, clubs and family as they choose.

Support is worked out with each person and reviewed with them. Communication gets particular attention, and we use whatever suits the individual, whether that is speech, signing, symbols, objects of reference or simply knowing somebody well enough to understand what they are telling you. Getting that right is the difference between somebody making a decision and being told about one afterwards.

Short respite stays are available, which can give a family carer a break or let somebody see how they get on here first.

Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit and see the house.
