About Us
AYS Care is a residential care home in Colchester, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own, and supporting people managing mental health conditions and younger adults.
We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. Where we support somebody with a mental health condition, our approach is deliberately ordinary rather than clinical. We take time to understand what a good week looks like for a person and what tends to knock things off course, and we build support around that rather than around a fixed routine.
Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period and for family carers who need a break.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than something to point at. The better test is whether people here seem settled and whether they feel able to tell us when something is not working.

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. AYS Care supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
