About Us
Penny Pot Care Home is a residential home in Clacton on Sea, looking after older people who need help with daily living rather than nursing care. We offer permanent places and respite stays, and many of our residents live with dementia.
We try to keep the emphasis on life rather than on care, even though care is what we provide. Residents choose how they spend their time, keep up with family and friends, have a say in what happens in the house, and are supported to do things for themselves wherever they can. Doing something for somebody is nearly always quicker than helping them do it, and nearly always the poorer choice.
Our dementia care rests on familiarity and patience. The same staff, a routine that holds its shape, surroundings that make sense, and time given rather than grudged when somebody needs longer to find their words. Where a resident becomes distressed we look for the reason, because there almost always is one, whether pain, confusion, boredom or fear.
Being near the coast is useful and we make sure people get out, because outings are the first thing to slide when a home is busy.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.
Come and look round whenever it suits you, meet the people who live here, and ask them what they make of us.
