About Us

We are Magdalen Close, a residential care home in Clacton on Sea. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with dementia, and people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment.

The people who live here have very different needs, so we plan around the individual rather than running one routine for everybody. Some people want a full and busy day out in the community. Others want a quiet, predictable rhythm at home with a familiar face nearby. Both are entirely reasonable ways to live, and our job is to make either of them work well.

We put a lot of weight on knowing people properly. That means understanding how somebody communicates, what unsettles them, what they enjoy and what their life was like before they came to us. New staff spend time learning this from the people who know it best, including families, before they are expected to work alone.

Support plans are written with the person, not about them, and they get reviewed when something changes rather than only at set intervals. We work closely with social workers, GPs, community teams and families, and we keep relatives properly informed.

We offer respite stays alongside permanent places, which gives family carers a break and gives people a chance to get to know us first. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.
