About Us
We are Acorn Lodge Care Home in Braintree, Essex. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are available.
We aim for something domestic rather than institutional. People bring their own furniture and pictures, keep their own habits, and decide for themselves how their day runs. What time you wake, where you eat, whether you want company or would rather sit quietly: those are your decisions and they stay that way.
For people living with dementia we work with the person as they are now. Knowing their history, recognising early what tends to unsettle them and having the patience to go at their pace prevents a lot of distress before it begins.
Where we support somebody with a learning disability or an autistic person, we plan individually rather than by category. How a person prefers to be given information, what unsettles them and what a good week looks like to them are the basis of the plan, not an afterthought.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would always rather hear a concern early. Please ring us to arrange a visit.
