About Us
Merrywick Hall is a residential care home near Hull. Those living here include older people and adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays.
A mixed household means we cannot run one routine and expect it to suit everybody, so we work out individually what a good day looks like for each person and build from there. For some it is company and something going on. For others it is their own room and being left in peace, and we treat that as an equally reasonable way to spend an afternoon.
Where somebody can still do something themselves we support them to keep doing it, even when stepping in would be quicker. On a busy morning that takes discipline, and it is the difference between supporting a person and gradually deskilling them.
For residents with learning disabilities and autistic residents we are careful about routine and about giving notice of change, because knowing what is happening and who is on shift is often what makes a day workable.
Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people who live here and their families regularly what we should be doing differently.
