About Us
Kirkgate House is a residential care home in Bridlington supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays.
We run this as somebody's home rather than as a service with bedrooms attached. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Some of the people living here have been with us a long time and know the place thoroughly. Others arrive needing space and patience before they settle, and we give them both without treating a slow start as a problem.
Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, handling money, using the bus, getting to activities or work, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for what they can take on themselves.
Communication gets careful attention. We learn how each person expresses themselves, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Noise, lighting, predictability and somewhere quiet to retreat to all affect how good a day somebody has, so we treat the environment as part of the support.
Being near the coast, getting out is easy and is part of the ordinary week.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see us.
