About Us

Here at Elsadene, we are a care home based in Weymouth, Dorset, providing residential support to people with a range of needs including mental health conditions, physical disabilities and the complexities that can come with older age. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether planned or at short notice.

We understand that moving into a care home, or supporting a loved one to do so, is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. We do not take that lightly. From the moment someone walks through our door, we want them to feel that this is a place where they are genuinely known and genuinely valued, not just as a set of care needs, but as a whole person with their own history, preferences and personality.

Our team works hard to build real relationships with the people we support. That means taking the time to understand what matters most to each individual, how they like their days to look, what brings them comfort, and what they want to hold onto in terms of independence and choice. Care plans are built around the person, and we revisit them regularly to make sure they continue to reflect changing needs and wishes.

We are pleased to hold a good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistent effort our staff put in every single day. We remain committed to listening, learning and improving wherever we can.

Weymouth itself is a wonderful place to be, and wherever possible we encourage residents to stay connected with the local community and the things they enjoy. Life here should feel as full and as comfortable as we can make it.

If you would like to find out more about whether Elsadene could be the right fit for you or someone close to you, we would love to hear from you.

More about the care at Encompass Care Specialist Mental Health Services Elsadene

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Later life brings a mixture of needs, and a home registered for older people has to cover the ordinary ones first, washing, dressing, medicines, meals and conversation. Elsadene in Weymouth is registered for that care alongside support for mental health conditions and physical disability. Ask how the day is organised, whether residents choose their own rising and bedtimes, and how often a bath or shower is offered. Night time arrangements deserve a direct question about how many staff are on duty and awake. The home carries a good rating, although the inspection behind it took place in September 2018, so ask what has changed since. Weekly fees in the South West generally sit between £1000 and £1300.

Mental Health

A settled week, clear expectations and staff who do not treat symptoms as misbehaviour are what make a placement work for adults with mental health conditions. Elsadene is registered to support this group. Ask what qualifications or experience the team has, how care is coordinated with community mental health services, and what happens when someone becomes unwell.

Physical Disability

Lifts, level thresholds and a bathroom that can be used without a struggle decide how much of a building is really available to a resident. Elsadene is registered to support people with a physical disability, though the register says nothing about the premises, so look round carefully. Ask about ceiling track hoists, assisted bathing, wheelchair access to the garden and how personal care is handled with dignity.

Younger Adults

Adults in their thirties and forties have little in common with a lounge full of pensioners, and a good home works around that. Elsadene is registered to support younger adults, so ask who else of a similar age lives there and what the week looks like for them. Independence, privacy and the freedom to come and go are the things worth probing.

Respite Care

A short stay can be arranged for a planned break, after a spell in hospital, or as a way of testing a home before committing. Elsadene is registered for respite, and one or two weeks is the usual minimum, with the best dates going early. Pack ordinary clothes, toiletries, medication in its original packaging and a couple of familiar things for the bedside.

Residential Care

Meals, laundry, personal care and a hand with medicines make up a residential placement, with no nurse required to be on the premises. Elsadene is registered on that basis, so GPs, district nurses and community teams provide any clinical care from outside. Families should ask how those visits are arranged and what the home does if someone's health becomes unstable. Activities and the shape of an ordinary day are not recorded on the public register, so ask directly what is on offer. Dorset usually pays about £750 to £900 a week for a funded place, below the regional private range. Ask whether a top up would be required and who would be expected to meet it.
