About Beacon House
Beacon House is a residential care home in Dartmouth, Devon. We look after older people who need help through the day, including those living with dementia, people who have managed a mental health condition for years, and people with a physical disability. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Dartmouth is a town people are attached to, built on a hill above the river, and most of our residents have known it for years. Staff tend to be local and tend to stay, which does more for the people living here than any amount of decoration. The hill is a genuine consideration, so getting people out takes planning rather than good intentions, and we plan it. The care itself is steady rather than striking. Washing and dressing in a way that leaves somebody feeling like themselves. Medicines on time. Meals that are hot and actually wanted. For residents with dementia we keep routines consistent and surroundings familiar. Where somebody has lived with a mental health condition for a long time, the work is mostly about keeping a routine calm and noticing early when things are sliding. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visit without an appointment if you would rather. We would honestly prefer it.
