About Dovebourne Care Home
Dovebourne Care Home is a residential care home in Derby, supporting older people and younger adults from across Derbyshire. We work with people living with dementia, people who have mental health needs and people with a physical disability. Our aim is a household rather than an institution, and the difference tends to show in small, checkable things. Whether anybody knocks before coming into your room. Whether you can still make your own tea when you want one. Whether getting up at half past nine is treated as a preference or a problem. Whether the food is worth looking forward to or merely got through. None of that is possible unless the practical side is dependable, so we are careful about personal care, medication, meals cooked in our own kitchen, and having staff awake and available through the night. For residents with a physical disability we make sure that the equipment and the help are there to get out of a room and about the house, because mobility lost to staff convenience is the easiest loss to prevent and the hardest to reverse. Dementia is part of most of our days. We stopped correcting people a long time ago. Consistent staff, a calm house and enough of somebody's history to find the thread of a conversation do far more. For residents with mental health needs we work patiently and with the professionals already involved. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come at a busy time and ask the residents what they make of us.

More about the care at Dovebourne Care Home
Dementia Care at Dovebourne Care Home
Crystal Care Homes Hatton has held this registration since 1 October 2026, and no CQC rating has been published for the home. It says it stopped correcting people a long time ago, crediting consistent staff, a calm house and enough of somebody's history to find the thread of a conversation. Dementia is described as part of most of its days, though the register confirms only that it is in scope. Ask how distress is handled on a bad afternoon, what is done if a resident tries to leave, and how care is adjusted as dementia advances. Ask what dementia training staff receive.
Residential Care at Dovebourne Care Home
Sixty six places in Derby, with indicative East Midlands fees of £850 to £1100 a week against a Derbyshire rate of about £680 to £820, is the shape of the decision here. Residential care means everyday living support and no nursing on the premises, so meals, personal care, medication and company are covered while wound care and unstable health needs are not. Ask what the home does if a resident's health moves beyond residential care, and whether a move would follow. Ask who makes up any shortfall between the council rate and the home's own fee. Ask too how often fees are reviewed.
Older Person Care at Dovebourne Care Home
Whether the food is worth looking forward to or merely got through is one of the small tests this Derby home sets itself, along with whether anybody knocks before coming into your room. Behind those sits the practical side it says it is careful about: personal care, medication, meals cooked in its own kitchen, and staff awake and available through the night. Dovebourne Care Home describes what it wants as a household rather than an institution. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and what they are trained to do. Ask as well how a morning routine is recorded, and what happens when a preference does not suit the rota.
Mental Health at Dovebourne Care Home
Mental health is named on this Derby registration alongside dementia and physical disability. In a residential setting what tends to help is a steady routine, staff who do not treat a bad stretch as failure, and being asked rather than told. Ask what training staff have, who is awake overnight, and how a crisis is escalated to the local team.
Younger Adults at Dovebourne Care Home
Younger adults are among six categories on this registration, alongside dementia, mental health and physical disability. Where most residents are a good deal older, an adult under 65 can find the week holds little aimed at them. Ask who of a similar age lives at the home now, and how their day is arranged.
Physical Disability at Dovebourne Care Home
Mobility lost to staff convenience is the easiest loss to prevent and the hardest to reverse, as this home puts it. It says the equipment and the help are there to get out of a room and about the house. Ask how transfers are assessed and recorded, and what access is actually like between bedrooms, dining room and garden.
