About Us
Green Gables is a residential care home in Alfreton, Derbyshire, and we support older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, adults living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Respite stays are available as well.
A household this varied only works if people are treated as individuals rather than as categories. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of practical help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want a settled place to live, company when they choose it, and a house that holds together when a bad week arrives.
For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a preference, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept consistent where we can. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time rather than hurrying them.
We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team, and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and be asked about it.
Families and professionals considering Green Gables are welcome to visit on an ordinary day and question us closely.
