About Us
The Gables is a care home in Whitehaven. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we would rather put it at the start than leave it to be discovered. The inspection found things that were not good enough for the people living here. We have accepted those findings and we are working through them. Anyone considering the home should ask precisely what was identified and precisely what has changed since, and should press if the answer sounds general.
What we are working towards is straightforward. A home where residents decide how their own day runs, where rooms belong to the people in them, where visitors come when it suits them, and where staff know the people they support properly rather than in outline.
Please visit before you decide anything. Read the inspection report in full, talk to residents and relatives, and judge the home on what you find.
