About Us

St George's Residential Care Home is in Millom, providing residential care to older people, with respite stays available. We support residents living with dementia and residents with a physical disability.

Millom is a small place, and being part of it matters to the people who live here. Families, old friends and neighbours are close by, and we would much rather they came and went freely than visited by appointment. Somebody moving into a care home should not have to leave their own community behind at the same time.

As a residential home our focus is daily life rather than clinical treatment. Residents keep their own routines and preferences, and we support them to carry on doing what they can for themselves, which is nearly always better than having it done for them.

For residents with dementia we rely on familiarity above all: the same staff, a routine that holds, surroundings that make sense, and the patience to work out what somebody is trying to tell us rather than reacting to how it comes out.

Respite stays give family carers a proper break, and we plan them as carefully as any permanent move.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.

If you are thinking about a place for yourself or a relative, come and see us and make up your own mind.
