About Us
We are Parkside, a residential care home in Maryport. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, and people with a visual or hearing impairment.
With that range of people under one roof, a single routine would suit nobody, so we do not run one. People get up when they are ready, eat what appeals to them and spend their days as they choose. What stays the same is that staff are always about and that they know the people here well enough to notice when somebody is quieter, more tired or less themselves than usual.
For residents living with dementia, we work with their history rather than against their confusion. Knowing the work somebody did, the family they raised and the music that still reaches them is worth more than any activity timetable. Where a person has a visual or hearing impairment, we make sure every member of staff knows how they prefer to be approached.
We keep families properly in the picture and would always rather make an early call about a small concern. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come.
Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to arrange a look round.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
Yes. Parkside is registered for dementia care, so someone whose needs increase can usually stay rather than move. Ask how they support people in the later stages. Source: CQC register
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. Parkside is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home. Source: CQC register

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. Parkside supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
