About Us
Lothian House is a care home in Spennymoor, County Durham, offering residential and dementia care for older people, along with support for younger adults whose needs are better met in a small and settled household. We are proud that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall, though what matters far more to us is what residents and their families tell us week by week. We believe good care is mostly made up of small things done properly. Knowing that someone takes two sugars, that they like the curtains open early, that Sunday afternoons are for phoning a daughter in Durham. Our team takes the time to learn those details, and we write them down so that a new colleague on shift knows them too. For residents living with dementia we keep routines familiar and surroundings easy to understand, and we look for the feeling behind what someone is trying to tell us rather than correcting them. Families are welcome here at any reasonable hour, and we would much rather you visited often and told us when something is not right. We also offer respite stays for people who need a period of recovery after a hospital admission, or whose regular carer needs a rest. If you are beginning to think about care for someone you love, please come and see us, have a cup of tea and ask us the difficult questions. We would be glad to show you around.
