About Porte Rouge Care Home
Porte Rouge is a residential care home in Torpoint providing care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia. We are a home first and foremost, and we work at keeping the atmosphere relaxed and unhurried. People choose when to get up and go to bed, where to spend their day and how much company they want, and they keep their own belongings around them. Staff help with washing and dressing, with moving about safely, with medication and with meals and drinks. For those living with dementia we keep routines steady and surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and treat distress as something to be understood rather than corrected. Families usually know a great deal about what works, so we ask them and we listen. Meals are cooked here and there is a real choice. We know the people living here well enough to notice when somebody is off colour, and we involve the GP early rather than waiting for a small problem to grow. Respite and short stays can be arranged for families needing a break or people recovering after illness. If you would like to look round, please telephone us and we will arrange a time that suits you.
