About Trevelthan House

Trevelthan House is a residential home in Redruth supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. It is a home first and a service second, and we try hard to keep it that way. The people who live here have their own routines, their own interests and their own opinions about how the house should run, and we think that is exactly as it should be. Support is built around each person: what they want to do with their time, the help they need to do it, and the parts of life they would rather manage themselves. Some people here need a great deal of support. Others need very little, and want us mostly to stay out of the way. Both are fine. We pay close attention to communication, because so much of what goes wrong in support for autistic people and people with a learning disability comes down to somebody not being understood. That means learning how each person communicates, giving them time, and not assuming that quiet means content. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break and give the person staying with us a change of scene on their own terms. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Anyone thinking about a place here, or about respite, is welcome to visit and meet us.
