About The Manse

We are The Manse, a residential care home in Newquay caring for older people, including many who are living with dementia. We have tried to keep the feel of a house rather than an institution. People bring their own furniture and pictures, come down when they wake rather than when a rota says so, and spend their days as they please. Some like the sitting room and the conversation that goes with it, others prefer their own room with the radio on, and neither needs explaining to anybody. Dementia care takes patience and it takes knowing the person, so we spend time learning about the work somebody did, the family they raised, the music that still reaches them and the routines that steady them. We do not argue about what year it is. We meet people where they are and find something good to do together there. The staff here know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter than usual or off their food, and those early signs are what stop small problems becoming serious. We keep families informed and would far rather ring early. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. We work alongside GPs, district nurses and social workers, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see the home.
