About Pendragon

We are a residential care home in Newquay, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. We also offer respite stays where a short break is what is needed rather than a permanent move. Our job is to run a house where people live their own lives with support, rather than a place that runs their lives on their behalf. In practice that means noticing how each person communicates, what they need from their surroundings, what turns a manageable day into a hard one and what helps when that happens. Change is handled carefully. Notice, explanation and a week that keeps its shape are not extras here, they are what make coping possible. Where somebody can do something for themselves, even slowly, we would far rather they did. Doing everything for people because it is quicker takes away something that is difficult to give back later. Living on the Cornish coast is worth something, and we try to keep the house connected to what is going on around it rather than turned in on itself. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We work closely with families and with the professionals involved, because they usually understand a person better than any assessment does. If you are considering a placement or a short break here, please get in touch and we will talk it through openly with you.
