About Huthnance Park

We are a residential care home near Helston, Cornwall, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays where a short break is what is needed rather than a permanent move. We see our job as running a house where people live their own lives with support, not a place that manages their lives on their behalf. In practice that means paying close attention to how each person communicates, what they need from their surroundings, what turns a manageable day into a hard one and what helps when that happens. It also means being careful about change, because notice, explanation and a week with a predictable shape are not extras here. Where somebody can do something themselves, even slowly, we would much rather they did. Independence is not tidy and it takes longer, but doing everything for people because it is quicker takes something away that is difficult to give back. Cornwall is a good place to live and we try to keep the house connected to what is going on around it rather than turned inwards. Families are welcome and we work closely with them, and with the professionals involved, because they usually know a person best. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a placement or a short break here, please get in touch and we will talk it through honestly with you.
