About Us
Parklands is a residential care home in Stockport. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life, and caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do.
We provide residential care rather than nursing care. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing, medication and meals and to keep the household running, while local doctors and district nurses look after clinical needs. For most people that arrangement works well, and it leaves a great deal more of their independence intact than a clinical setting would.
Dementia care comes down to two things: consistency, and knowing the person. A day that runs in a familiar order, the same faces turning up and surroundings that are easy to make sense of will settle somebody more surely than any programme of activities. We take the trouble to learn about a person's working life, their family and their habits, because that is what allows us to understand them when words become difficult.
Where younger adults live here, we plan around the fact that they are not looking for the same week as somebody forty years older.
Respite and short stays are available.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to look round Parklands.
