About Us

Hope Green Residential Home is a care home in Macclesfield, supporting older people from Cheshire East and the surrounding area, including many people living with dementia.

We are a residential home, which means we are not a clinical setting and we do not pretend otherwise. What we provide is a household where the practical difficulties of later life are taken care of so that the rest of life can carry on. Help with washing and dressing. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Somebody awake at night. Company when it is wanted and peace when it is not.

Dementia is part of most of our days. Our approach is unfashionably simple: the same staff as often as we can manage, a calm and unhurried house, and a willingness to go where the person is rather than dragging them back to where we think they ought to be. If somebody is convinced it is 1962 and they are needed at work, there is almost always a way to settle that conversation kindly without a lie and without an argument.

Relatives tell us things we would never otherwise learn, and we ask for that history early because it is genuinely useful rather than a form filling exercise.

We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. Please come and see the home, meet the people who live here and ask us whatever you need to know.

More about the care at Hope Green Residential Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Somebody awake at night is often the single thing a family most wants to hear about. Hope Green Residential Home in Macclesfield is registered for older person care, providing help with washing and dressing, medication managed properly, meals cooked on site and served at a table, company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and how quickly a call bell is answered. Ask how a resident's own preferences about rising, bathing and mealtimes are recorded and respected. Ask how often the care plan is reviewed and who is invited. Fees in the North West generally run £800 to £1050 a week, with Cheshire East paying roughly £650 to £800.

Dementia

If somebody is convinced it is 1962 and they are needed at work, there is usually a kind way to settle that without lying and without an argument. Hope Green Residential Home is registered for dementia care, and the approach that works is unfashionably simple: the same staff as often as possible, an unhurried house and a willingness to meet the person where they are. Relatives supply history that staff could never otherwise learn, so ask when and how it is collected. Ask how distress is handled and what happens when a resident is determined to leave. Ask how many staff are on during the afternoon, when agitation often peaks. With no overall rating published, these answers are the evidence you have.

Residential Care

Being honest about not being a clinical setting is a point in a residential home's favour, because it tells you where the boundary sits. Hope Green Residential Home is registered for residential care: a household where the practical difficulties of later life are handled, with meals, personal care, medication and laundry included and nursing excluded. Wounds, feeding tubes, oxygen or health that will not stay steady need a nursing home and qualified staff on site. Residential homes work with visiting district nurses and GPs instead, so ask how that is arranged. Ask what would happen if needs increased after a move, and whether a place is held during a hospital stay. Against a council rate of £650 to £800 a week and a regional range of £800 to £1050, ask who would meet any difference.
