About Us

Here at Woodland House, we are a residential care home based in Milton Keynes, Central Bedfordshire, and we are genuinely proud of the community we have built here. We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, with a particular focus on younger adults who deserve a home that feels exactly that — a real home, not just a place to stay.

We offer both long term residential care and respite care, which means we are able to support people at different stages and in different circumstances. Whether someone is joining us permanently or staying for a shorter period to give their family or carers a break, we approach every individual with the same level of thought and attention. Respite care is something we take seriously, because we understand how much it matters to families that their loved one is somewhere they feel comfortable and genuinely looked after.

Our team knows the people we support really well. That familiarity is something we work hard to build and maintain, because consistency matters enormously when you are supporting someone with a learning disability or autism. Routines, trust and communication are at the heart of how we work day to day.

We are proud that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Outstanding. That recognition means a great deal to us, not because of what it says on paper, but because it reflects the effort our staff put in every single day and the positive lives our residents are able to lead here.

If you are considering Woodland House for yourself or someone you care about, we would warmly encourage you to come and visit us. There is no better way to get a feel for who we are and how we work than spending a little time with us in person. We would love to hear from you.

More about the care at Woodland House

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Learning Disability / Autism

Getting the environment right matters as much as getting the support right for adults with a learning disability or autism. Woodland House is registered for this group. Ask how each resident's plan is built, how sensory sensitivities are accommodated, and how often placements are reviewed with the council.

Younger Adults

A home with a younger population feels quite different from one serving people in their nineties, and that difference shows in the daily routine. Woodland House is registered to support adults under 65. Ask what the age range is at present, what people do during the week, and how much independence residents keep.

Respite Care

Respite can be a practical necessity or a deliberate trial, and it is worth being clear which it is before booking. Woodland House is registered to offer short stays. Ask about the minimum length, the notice required, and what information the home needs about medication and routine.

Residential Care

Residential care means a staffed home where meals, personal care, laundry and medication are all handled, leaving residents to spend their energy on other things. Woodland House in Milton Keynes is registered to provide it. Care workers rather than nurses are employed, with the local surgery and district nursing team covering health needs. The Care Quality Commission rated the home outstanding at its inspection in May 2019, a strong result though one now a few years old. Weekly fees across the East commonly run between 1000 and 1350 pounds, while the council usually pays in the region of 750 to 900. Ask what the weekly figure includes and what is charged separately.
