About Redwood House
We are Redwood House, a residential care home in Bedford. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, and people managing a mental health condition. Many of those living here are younger adults. This is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they are placed, and that difference shows in how the house runs. People choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list and how they spend their time. Meals get planned together, and decisions about the household are made with the people in it rather than handed down. Support is built around the life each person wants, which might mean college, work, volunteering, sport or seeing family, with as much or as little backing as those things take. Where somebody wants to become more independent, we work at it steadily and at their pace rather than deciding in advance what is beyond them. Where a mental health condition is part of the picture, we work calmly and consistently, and we keep in close contact with community teams and GPs, because none of this holds together if the services involved are not talking to each other. We work closely with families and social workers, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Please contact us if you would like to visit and meet the people who live here.
