About Us

Orchard House Residential Care Home sits in Sawston, and we care for older people who need support with daily life, including those living with dementia. We also offer respite stays, either as a planned break for a family carer or as a period of recovery after a spell in hospital.

Ours is a residential home, and the aim is that it feels like a home rather than a facility. People bring their own furniture and pictures where there is room for them, choose when to get up and how to spend the day, and eat food cooked here at hours that suit them. Our staff help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication in a way that protects dignity, and there are staff available through the night. Health needs are managed with the local general practice, district nurses and therapists so that things are picked up early.

For residents living with dementia we work with routine, familiarity and patience. We take our lead from the person, use what we know of their history to make sense of what they need, and accept that some days ask more of everyone. What we do not do is hurry somebody through a moment they are finding difficult.

Village life, the garden and visitors coming and going all matter here. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we would be pleased to show you round.
