About The Woodside
We are The Woodside, a residential care home in the Bury area of Greater Manchester. We support older people, adults whose mental health needs ongoing care, and younger adults who need a settled place to live with support on hand. As a residential home our care is about daily life rather than clinical treatment: help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and keeping a routine going, with GPs, community nurses and mental health teams involved when their input is needed. For residents whose mental health is the reason they came to us, we have found that what helps most is consistency, staff who do not treat a bad day as though it were a crisis, and somewhere quiet to withdraw to when the house feels busy. Residents run their own days as much as they can. People choose when to get up, where to eat and how much company they want, keep their own belongings around them, and come and go in the way their circumstances allow. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we are glad to talk through our own quality checks with anyone who asks. Families and friends are welcome, and we would rather know about a worry while it is still small. If you are looking for residential care in or around Bury, arrange to visit and judge the place for yourself.

More about the care at The Woodside
Residential Care at The Woodside
The registration here is residential and not nursing, which is the most important distinction for a family comparing homes in Manchester. It means the support is about daily life, with GPs, community nurses and mental health teams coming in when their input is needed, rather than qualified nurses on the premises at all hours. Typical fees in the North West fall between £800 and £1050 a week for this kind of care. The Woodside describes meals, mobility, personal care and keeping a routine going as the substance of the job. Ask what happens if a resident's health declines to the point where nursing is required, and whether that would mean moving again.
Older Person Care at The Woodside
Nine people is the most The Woodside may take, which makes it a small household in the Bury area rather than an institution. For an older person that usually shows in the ordinary things: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals, and someone noticing that you are quieter than yesterday. The home says residents choose when to get up, where to eat and how much company they want, and that they keep their own belongings around them. What the public record does not show is how a night is staffed, so ask how many people are awake in the building after midnight. Ask also who holds responsibility for medication and what happens if a resident becomes unwell at three in the morning.
Mental Health at The Woodside
Staff who do not treat a bad day as though it were a crisis is what this home says helps most, along with consistency and somewhere quiet to withdraw to. For many adults that is genuinely the whole of it, and dignity rests on not being managed. Ask what experience the staff have and how a crisis is handled out of hours.
Younger Adults at The Woodside
Bury usually pays somewhere between £650 and £800 a week, while typical fees across the North West sit higher, between £800 and £1050. For an adult under sixty five in a house of nine, the question is what the day holds and who else is there. Ask about coming and going, about work or college, and whether anyone of a similar age lives at The Woodside.
