About Us
We are The Acres, a residential care home in Manchester, within the borough of Bury. We provide a permanent home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily life, and we also take respite stays for anyone who needs care for a short period, whether that is after a spell in hospital or to give a family carer a rest.
The people who live here have a wide range of needs. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people living with a physical disability, and residents with visual or hearing impairment. Because those needs differ so much from one person to the next, we plan care individually rather than running everyone to the same routine. We take time to learn how someone prefers to be supported, what they can manage independently and where they want a hand, and we write that into the care plan and revisit it as things change.
Day to day life here is meant to feel ordinary. People choose how they spend their time, keep their own belongings and habits around them, and see visitors when they wish. Communication matters a great deal in a home with this mix of needs, so we adapt how we share information to suit the person in front of us, and we keep families in the picture.
We are registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission, and our most recent overall rating is requires improvement. We are working through the areas that inspection identified, and we are glad to talk openly with anyone considering a move here about what that means and what we are changing.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
No. The Acres is not listed for dementia care on the CQC register. If dementia is likely, choose a home that is, so a second move is not needed later. Source: CQC register

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
