About Pinehurst Care Centre

Pinehurst is a residential care home in Crowthorne. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. We try to keep institutional habits out. No waking people for handover, no queueing for meals, no assuming that everybody wants the television on. Dementia care here rests on knowing people. We ask families for the history, the working life, the places and the music, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. Without them we would be managing a condition rather than keeping company with a person, and residents notice the difference even when they cannot name it. Respite guests are properly looked after rather than merely accommodated. We find out beforehand how somebody likes things done. Where somebody has a faith, we make it practical rather than nominal: time, quiet, and help getting to whatever matters to them. We try to keep people connected to the life they had. Post opened when they want it, phone calls made, and trips out arranged where they are wanted. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We would rather have a reputation among families than a line in a report.
