About Us

The Laurels is a residential care home in Christchurch, providing a settled home and short stays for older people who need support with everyday living.

Residents come to us for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes managing a house had become too much. Sometimes an illness or a fall changed what was realistic. Whatever the route here, our aim is that people come to think of this as home. They bring their own things, keep their own routines and decide how their days are spent, while staff look after what has become difficult, from personal care and medication to meals and laundry.

A number of the people living with us have dementia. What helps there is consistency, unhurried time and knowing enough about somebody's life to be real company rather than simply helpful.

Respite stays are available, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs support for a few weeks after being unwell.

We would rather be open about our regulator. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not content with that. We have taken it seriously, there is work under way to put things right, and we are willing to talk it through properly with anyone considering the home.

Please come and see The Laurels for yourself. Walk round without being hurried, talk to the staff and to the people living here, and ask us the questions you actually want answered.
