About Franciscan Convent

We are a residential care home at the Franciscan Convent in Blackburn. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a rest. The character of this place comes from the community it belongs to, and we would say honestly that it suits some people better than others. There is a quietness here, and a rhythm to the day, that many of our residents value a great deal. We do not press anybody to take part in anything, and we are equally happy to be home to somebody who simply wants a peaceful place to live. Our priorities otherwise are plain. Good food, warm rooms, laundry that comes back, help when it is wanted and privacy when it is not. Residents get up and go to bed when it suits them rather than when a rota finds it convenient. We take real trouble over knowing people: their working life, their family, which chair is theirs, how they take their tea. Those details are how somebody stays a person here rather than becoming a resident. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We review our own practice regularly and we do not wait to be told.
