About Valley Way Respite Service
Valley Way Respite is a short break setting in the London borough of Barnet. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Most people come to us for a planned break. That might be because a family carer needs rest they can count on, because something has happened at home, or simply because a change of scene and different company does somebody good. Short stays carry their own difficulty: there is no long settling in period, so we have to get to know somebody quickly and get it right first time. We ask families to tell us everything, including the details they assume are too small to mention, because those are usually the ones that matter. While people are with us we want them to actually enjoy it rather than merely be safely looked after. People choose what they do, get out and about, and keep up with whatever they were doing before they arrived. We work at the pace of the person in front of us. Carers who use us regularly tell us that being able to plan a break with confidence changes how they cope for the rest of the year, so we try to be dependable about bookings and honest when we cannot help. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking how we could do this better.
